Myth : There's no need to visit the dentist every six months.
Reality : False! It is necessary if you wish to keep your teeth for a lifetime! Barely two generations ago, some people in Québec had no teeth left after age 40! Therefore, a dentist has a lot of work to do to preserve and care for both teeth and gums, while securing good chewing abilities. For life-long dental health, you need to see a dentist every six months on average. Some patients need to be seen every 3 months, and others, once a year. Prevention is the only way to avoid or minimize problems.
Myth : It's better to wait for a dental emergency to see the dentist for a full examination.
Reality : False! This is how you end up with more serious problems. Prevention and cleaning are the healthiest and least expensive care methods.
Myth : Root canal treatment is complicated, and implants are a nightmare.
Reality : False! New technologies provide for pain-free miracles.
Myth : Snoring and sleep apnea are incurable.
Reality : False! Without treatment, the patient's health can deteriorate.
Myth : Primary (baby) teeth do not need to be treated.
Reality : False! The role of pedodontics is to care for and treat the teeth from a very early age.
Myth : Grinding of the teeth is perfectly normal, and tooth-grinders suffer no effects.
Reality : False! Bruxism, or tooth grinding, causes jaw pain and migraines. A simple device can deal with the problem.
Myth : Migraines can only be treated by medication.
Reality : False! Some migraines are caused by dental problems. Once the source of the problem is handled, the patient no longer has to suffer from migraine pain.
Myth : Orthodontics consist of installing ugly and painful dental devices involving an awful and lengthy treatment.
Reality : False! Transparent devices are available. With new technologies, the length of treatment can be cut by half in some cases.
